The City of Arcola authorized professional engineering and surveying services with Kalusa, Inc. for design and bid-phase work on Lift Station No. 2 at Dallas and Madison, with staff saying the rehabilitation will require a formal bid process because the construction cost is expected to exceed $50,000.
City engineer Lawrence Turner said the contract includes preparing plans, bid packages and conducting inspections during construction: "Part of our fee also include preparing the bid package, having a preconstruction meeting. Once the preconstruction meeting here, and we'll do the bid opening, we'll come back before you so you can award that contract to whomever the low bidder is, based on our recommendation," Turner said. Turner also discussed bypass pumping needs and timing to avoid wet-weather periods. Council approved moving ahead and directed staff to advertise and return with bid results.
