The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors voted to provide a letter of support for a redevelopment tax credit application for a housing project on a former daycare site. The applicant, identified in the agenda as Stephanie Prawn, described the program as similar to a workforce housing tax credit and said the site is a brownfield/grayfield being transitioned to residential use.
“The new tax credit program … is very similar to the workforce housing tax bridal,” the applicant said, and added, “we can't win if we don't play” when discussing competitiveness. A supervisor moved to provide the letter of support, another seconded, and the board responded in the affirmative; the motion passed with recorded “aye” votes.
Staff will prepare and copy the letter immediately for submission before the program deadline later in the month.
