Auditors outline FY26 audit plan, flag common risks

Robert Endress, a partner with Denman CPAs, presented an overview of the firm’s upcoming fiscal‑year 2026 audit for the city. He said auditors will be on site in about three weeks and will examine risks that typically affect financial statements, including management override of controls and revenue recognition; Denman plans to report audit results to the council later in the year.
"Our responsibility as your auditors is to perform an audit, and to express an opinion on the financial statements," Endress said, explaining the firm’s role and the scope of the engagement. He noted the audit will also generate reports on controls and compliance with applicable federal standards and the Code of Iowa.
In response to council questions about last year’s issues, Endress said prior audits of Waukee had been "very, very clean" and that the firm occasionally issues minor, immaterial compliance recommendations, typically related to inventory cost accounting or budget‑amendment items. He invited council members to contact Denman staff with questions while the audit work is underway.
