Residents ask town for fixes after chip-seal work on Texas Hill Road

Another resident described safety and maintenance failures the board should address, saying, “The crown on the on the road is too high,” and recounting a mail truck sliding into a snowbank and repeated road cracking that appears linked to inadequate drainage. Board members and the highway superintendent acknowledged heavy winter damage and higher materials costs, and the superintendent said crews had spent weeks cutting dead trees and responding to drainage issues.
The public commenters asked the board for specific next steps to remove loose gravel from road edges, to correct drainage beneath cracked sections that are reappearing after superficial repairs, and to consider planting vegetation over riprap to restore roadside character. The board did not adopt a repair plan during public comment; the highway superintendent later confirmed a planned paving project for Mitchell Street in early May and warned that diesel and blacktop price increases will constrain road-work budgets going forward.
