The Monterey County Board of Education approved a resolution to extend workers' compensation coverage to volunteers who support county office programs, a staff presentation said. Dr. Stanley (speaker 24) explained the measure would cover roughly 30 volunteers across early learning, alternative education and special education placements and that the district's premium is based on salary, so volunteer coverage does not affect their existing agreement.
Trustees asked for details about volunteer duties and staff said volunteers serve in state preschool/head start, alternative programs, special education sites (Salinas High School and others) and one in the superintendent’s office. A motion to approve the resolution passed unanimously.
Trustees also noted staff plans to host a volunteer recognition event later in the year to acknowledge the scope of support volunteers provide.
