"It's basically it gets it's getting into the ground water or things like that," a board member said while explaining PFAS/PFOS risks and that Rice's test results exceeded a referenced threshold. The board cited one instance where a sample read about 23 compared with reference values mentioned as 17 or 18; members said other samples were lower (13, 10, 8). The district said it will increase testing frequency and is considering an ion-exchange system to remove PFAS from the well.
Board members discussed alternatives, including hooking Rice to public water, which staff estimated would cost about $800,000. They said public water typically is treated and can be managed, while the well will require a treatment system if contamination persists. The district will continue testing and bring more detailed options to a future meeting.
