La Porte assures incoming 5th graders will get extra training on pouch routines

Administrators said the district will "front load" training and practice for incoming fifth graders, communicate proactively with families and treat younger students differently from older middle-schoolers during the transition to Kesling Intermediate.
Ben Braden addressed concerns from families of incoming fifth graders and said staff will provide additional practice and communication to ease the transition.
"We are taking elementary students and giving them time to transition to middle school students... We will be patient. We will take our time. We will front load it as much as possible," Braden said, adding that staff will treat fifth graders as younger learners and promise frequent parent communication.
Wood and Heckard repeated that families can view the policy in registration materials and attend open-house events where staff will have tables set up to answer questions about pouches and procedures.
