La Porte outlines progressive discipline for device policy, including fines and suspensions

Ben Braden, assistant principal at La Porte Middle School, described a progressive-discipline matrix for violations of the new wireless-device policy. He said the district aims to teach compliance first but will escalate consequences if patterns develop.
"If a student loses, I don't know if you wanna talk about that, but if they intentionally damage or lose their Yondr pouch, it's gonna be a $30 charge for them to get a new one," Braden said. Officials said they will document parent communications and use existing Chromebook protocols for replacement and tracking.
Heckard said devices bypassed with magnets or other tools will be secured in the office and parents will need to pick them up. For repeated intentional offenses, Braden said the district may impose ISS or OSS days by the third or later offenses.
Administrators emphasized they do not plan to "come down with an iron fist" for early, teachable mistakes, but they signaled firmer consequences for deliberate circumvention.
