How La Porte will use Yondr pouches: assigned numbers, locking stations and morning checks

School leaders describe the district's plan to assign numbered Yondr pouches to students, install wall-mounted locking stations, run morning "seal" checks and place unlocking stations at exits so dismissal and after-school access are efficient.
Jordan Heckard, assistant principal at La Porte High School, said each student who falls under the policy will receive an individually numbered Yondr pouch at the start of the year and will keep it on their person throughout the day.
"Just like Chromebooks, they'll get that at the start of the year, and it'll be theirs," Heckard said. Teachers will do a quick check at the start of class to ensure the pouch is sealed; wall-mounted locking and unlocking stations and staff with unlocking capability will be available to prevent classroom interruptions.
Braden said unlocking at dismissal will be organized to avoid congestion: "We will have multiple locking stations at those exits so as not to cause a congestion issue." The district also plans outdoor unlocking stations so students who leave the building without unlocking can return and retrieve their devices.
Officials said younger students will receive extra practice with pouch routines and that the district will communicate station locations and procedures ahead of the school year during open-house events.
