Bastrop West: 400-acre mixed-use proposal including potential hospital heads to feasibility review

Sylvia introduced 'Bastrop West,' a proposed roughly 400-acre development at the intersection of 20 and 71 that would include land for a hospital and medical mall, a hotel-convention center complex, outdoor entertainment and youth sports fields. She framed the project as a regional economic opportunity and told Mayor Ishmael Harris the project could deliver the hospital the mayor has sought.
The city will place a feasibility study for the hotel and hospital on the next council meeting agenda and is preparing an economic incentive package. Sylvia said the study item will appear 'at the next council meeting' and that leadership expects to move rapidly on an incentive package if the study supports the project.
