District unveils 'reimagining' plan as enrollment falls to about 5,046 students

An enrollment presenter told the board: "our student enrollment that shows 5,046 students currently being serviced in our schools and district," and offered a projected enrollment of 4,926 for next year. Administrators said enrollment has declined roughly 15% since 2018–19 and showed changes to student‑to‑teacher and student‑to‑administrator ratios over that span. The district described plans for shared assistant principal roles, selected mixed‑grade groupings in some elementary bilingual classes and curriculum updates scheduled over the summer.
Acting superintendent Andrea Oates Parchment and central office staff said changes are driven by the fiscal shortfall and lower enrollment but stressed the district will preserve core instructional programs. On bilingual instruction, the director of multilingual and world language education emphasized continued expansion at the secondary level and said the high school will offer a full‑time bilingual ELA program that meets the state's "gold standard" for bilingual programming.
The district will publish a one‑page handout to parents by June 30 with principal and assistant principal assignments, teacher counts, enrollment numbers and school‑specific programming information; building‑level meetings are scheduled later in July. Administrators repeatedly framed the changes as efforts to maintain services while responding to budgetary constraints and anticipated additional communications and parent sessions over the summer.
