Board approves Ordinance 24-15 to update building and fire codes to 2021 standards

Sandy, a village staff member, said the ordinance "is the update of our building codes from the 2006 to 2021, except for the national electric code, which will be 2023's," and explained the village will submit the ordinance to the Capital Board for the required 30-day review. Trustees voted to adopt the ordinance so the village can meet the state-mandated update timeline and achieve compliance before Jan. 1.
During discussion trustees asked whether the change affects existing limitations on yard-waste burning; staff said the ordinance "still bans burning of yard waste" and that recreational fires remain permitted within the previously established limits. The ordinance was adopted on roll call as recorded in the meeting transcript.
