Trustees weigh foreclosure, condemnation or private sale for vacant Leonard Road property
Summary
The board discussed whether to condemn or foreclose on a vacant parcel on Leonard Road; foreclosure was described as quicker and less costly but could be reversed if the owner pays. Trustees asked the attorney to do a title search and await contact from a local business owner who may negotiate purchase.

Trustees reviewed options for a vacant parcel on Leonard Road and discussed next steps including condemnation, foreclosure or finding a private buyer.
Attorney Jim Stevens explained that condemnation is typically lengthier and more costly, whereas foreclosure "can get it done in about 6 months and is more cost effective," though a property owner could pay to stop the process. Trustees asked Stevens to begin a title search and investigate any outstanding mortgages. Trustee Dan Wolf reported he found the owner listed as Shawn Warren of Freedom Builders; Theresa Merriman of New Mill Tap said she would try to contact the owner to gauge interest in purchasing.
Trustees also discussed whether to continue mowing costs through current contractors or add liened amounts to the property and whether a parcel already condemned near storage units could be auctioned if the county lists it for sale. Jim Stevens will pursue owner identification and title checks before the board advances to formal action.
