Board questions single bid for 2nd-grade restroom project, asks staff to seek more bids

"One of my concerns... is that we only receive... I believe we always try to have three businesses," the Board Chair said.
Board members and staff discussed that the partitions and fixtures in the restrooms are deteriorating and that the condition has worsened since a prior walkthrough three years ago. A board member told the group the facilities are "actually in worse shape than they were 3 years ago" and listed problems including rusting partitions, broken hinges and collapsing flooring.
The board asked staff to pursue additional bids and to perform due diligence so the district can confirm pricing is in the appropriate financial range before moving forward. Staff said they would check whether the timing of the bid or limited contractor interest could explain the single bid and would return to the board with further information.
