Commission appoints Human Rights Commission member, approves staffing and surplus actions

The commission appointed Jeff Strewy to the county seat on the Brookings Human Rights Commission after commissioners noted public input and candidate backgrounds. The motion passed on voice vote.
The board declared a check printer surplus and authorized disposal. It also approved the filling of a heavy equipment operator vacancy and an equipment operator vacancy in the highway department; staff said they intend to promote from within for one opening. Commissioners approved appointing Sergeant Tom Chester as the law enforcement representative on the Brookings County Older Americans Center (BCOAC) advisory board at the request of the sheriff.
These items carried on voice or roll-call votes with affirmative support from commissioners present.
