Glenwood Springs City Council unanimously adopted a resolution on Aug. 6 endorsing federal legislation intended to block an expanded limestone mine that advocates say would threaten the hot springs and community resources. The resolution supports identical or companion measures introduced in the U.S. House and Senate by bipartisan sponsors.
Heather McGregor of the Glenwood Springs Citizens Alliance told council the measure represents years of organized opposition and thanked local representatives in Congress for introducing the bill. City Attorney Carl Hanlon described the bills as an unusual bipartisan example of local interests aligning in Washington, and staff presented letters of thanks that the city will send to the congressional delegation. The council approved the resolution and letters 7–0.
