Youth poets launch New Age Poetry to bridge generations and pay performers

Jaden Antoine and Kaidiata (Kai) Giovanni, cofounders of New Age Poetry, told host Dr. Bob Lee they formed the group to create a space where youth and adult poets share the same stage and learn from each other. "Our organization is focused on giving young people a voice," Giovanni said, explaining the group’s mission to host open mics, readings and workshops that connect generations.
The cofounders said most events are free and currently rely on volunteers and donated space; with grant funding they hope to make payments to performers and hire staff to make the work sustainable. They listed an Instagram handle (new.age.poetry) and said they plan a Baltimore show on Aug. 12 and a New York event in December (date to be announced).
