Wellington wins $2.88M Colorado Energy Office grant for ADUs, infill and electrification rebates

Staff told the planning commission that Wellington received $2,880,000 from the Colorado Energy Office's Impact Accelerator program to support local policy work that reduces emissions and advances resilience.
"This grant will be utilized to evaluate policies to encourage accessory dwelling units and encourage infill development of attached multifamily and mixed use housing," Britney Lenoir said, adding the award will also fund a development-fee nexus study and a rebate program for development costs tied to water, sewer and building electrification.
Mr. Byrd said the award is notable because it requires no local match and will be paired with other grant efforts; staff expects policy recommendations and potential code changes to return to the commission in the coming months, with consultant selection and project recommendations possible by late year or early next year.
