Williamstown approves transfer-station operator change; Saturday hours planned

Select Board members were told that the transfer station operation will transfer to Evan Johnson on April 1, and that operating hours will be changed to Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Staff described Johnson as Don Giroux’s nephew and said he has completed the required permitting with the State of Vermont. “Evan Johnson ... is going to take over the transfer station,” the staff member said. The board was told the new operator will continue to accept town trash and maintain the green-tire collection arrangement under the same terms that applied to the prior operator.
The board approved the administrative transition and confirmed that the last Wednesday opening will be March 26. Members asked questions about continuity and permitting; staff said all state approvals are in place.
