Several community members addressed the council during general public comments, thanking officials for a strong start to the school year and raising neighborhood concerns.
Lavelle Buchanan, representing the Pearls and Ivory Foundation, asked the council to consider helping the Boys & Girls Club obtain internet access to support after-school reading programs and solicited sponsorships or ad purchases for a September 19 gala. Buchanan said, "I found is that we didn't have Internet at the boys and girls club," and described feeding programs that provided food to more than 200 students during holiday breaks. Resident Steve Seawalk raised repeated illegal yard debris dumping on 7th Avenue and urged zoning or enforcement action to address the problem.
Council members thanked volunteers and staff and indicated they would follow up on requests; the mayor noted housing authority responsibility for Wi‑Fi in housing sites and directed community members to coordinate with relevant staff.
