District reports 7,895 students, capacity maps show room for thousands of seats

Executive Director of Student Services Irene Busotil told the board the district’s current enrollment is 7,895 and reviewed how students are placed and when interdistrict transfers or overflow placements are used.
Busotil explained the district’s goal is to place students at their school of residence when space is available, and described priorities for transfers (for example, bullying victims and military families). “So right now, as of today, our current enrollment is 7,895 students,” she said, and noted enrollment fluctuates daily.
Using red/orange/green site maps, Busotil identified spaces that could be converted to traditional classrooms and estimated the district has room at elementary schools for about 1,008 additional students conservatively and up to 2,096 in maximum-repurposing scenarios. She also explained site-admin ratios under the California Education Code (site administrators maximum 8 per 100 teachers) and said the district is currently around 6.09 per 100.
Board members pressed for clarifications about the administrator ratio and how flexible classroom and makerspace planning would be; Busotil said the district is being deliberate and that none of the circled spaces are being filled imminently. The presentation included planning for high‑school capacity (portables already installed and a new building expected to add roughly 450–550 seats when completed).
