Court approves Barcom Construction contract for Briscoe King Pavilion

The Commissioners Court authorized the county judge to execute a contractor agreement with Barcom Construction for Briscoe King Pavilion construction after staff said the project was value-engineered into the approved budget and includes a contingency. Project staff said they received three usable bids and worked to reduce finishes to bring the lowest responsible bid within budget.
"We have gotten this down to where it is within budget, and it has a contingency built into the budget as well," the presiding official said during the discussion. Project staff said the notice to proceed is expected Aug. 24 and that the calendar calls for about 14 months from that date to project completion and opening. Commissioners expressed support for getting projects moving and approved the contract by voice vote recorded as 4–0.
Why it matters: The pavilion is a county capital project; the contract approval starts procurement and scheduling for construction and will affect construction employment and park or pavilion operations once complete.
