Nueces County accepts resignation of emergency management director

Presiding Judge Protell asked for a motion; "Motion by Commissioner Gonzales" was recorded and Commissioner Matas seconded. The court voted "Aye" and the motion passed 4–0.
The director described efforts to professionalize the office and said she will stay involved in the community. "After about 30 years in emergency management, I kinda need some balance too," the director said, adding that she will remain "vice president of the Sabima, which is the Coastal Bend Emergency Management Association," and will help during the transition. Commissioners and the presiding judge thanked the director for her work and said the judge has expressed appreciation but was unable to attend the meeting due to medical reasons.
Why it matters: The director headed a county department with operational responsibilities for storms and other emergencies; accepting the resignation starts a transition process the court discussed, and commissioners said they will support an interim and help recruit a qualified replacement.
