Sheriff emphasizes Axon body and squad cameras in budget; board hears concerns about intersection cameras

During the budget discussion the chair (Troy) framed Axon body‑worn and squad cameras as one of the largest increases in the public‑safety budget but argued they pay for themselves by documenting incidents and clarifying encounters. He cited recent missing‑person cases where camera footage helped locate individuals.

"Just the fact that deputies' encounters with public are all recorded and tells the truth of what happened then at the scene," Troy said in defense of the equipment. Commissioners and members of the public raised privacy and access questions about intersection or 'block' cameras; Troy responded the county does not have primary access to those city cameras and can request footage from the city only for specific investigations.
