Council approves ordinance allowing clinics and medical services in B-3 district

The Monticello City Council adopted Ordinance 872 on July 27 to amend the City Code (Title XV, Chapter 153, Section 153.090) to allow clinics and other medical services as a permitted use in the B-3 district. Community Development Director Angela Schumann told the Council the Planning Commission had reviewed both clinic and bulk fuel items but that this ordinance only addresses clinic/medical service uses; staff will separately review any code language related to bulk fuel sales.
Councilmember Charlotte Gabler moved to adopt Ordinance 872 while excluding findings related to bulk fuel sales and storage; Councilmember Kip Christianson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The Council instructed staff to further review existing code language on bulk fuel before bringing any related amendment back to the Council.
The ordinance change is intended to clarify allowable commercial uses in the B-3 district; the Council's action does not modify bulk fuel sales rules at this time and leaves those for a future staff-led review.
