Residents urge stricter e-bike rules; city reports 430-response survey

At the public-comment portion of the Aug. 10 meeting, Vicky Adams urged the council to consider stricter local rules for electric bicycles and stand-up scooters, citing safety problems on sidewalks and at side streets. Adams recommended registration, speedometers, lights, helmets for minors and classes of e-bikes mapped to specific allowed places to ride.
The administration later told council it had closed an e-bike survey with about 430 responses and will share the results with the Ohio Municipal League and the local state representative to inform possible state or local actions. Council members said they plan further review and possible local legislation to balance transportation benefits with safety concerns.
