Residents pressed council about the closure of gates at the old West Gambier football field after a recent dog attack. Robin Stevenson, who said she was attacked on July 15, described the incident and urged installation of cameras; she offered to donate $2,000 toward surveillance to help capture evidence and protect users.
Safety Service Director (speaker 17) told the meeting, "I made that decision, as the safety service director," and explained the closure was intended to limit unregulated use while the incident proceeds through the court process and the dog-warden review. He said the parcel is city property but not a designated, fully-improved dog park and that reopening should follow a review of safety measures such as gated double entries and other controls.
Council asked administration and counsel to assess options, and the mayor noted alternatives including nearby parks and a non‑city dog park (Wolf Run) for off‑leash activity while the city evaluates permanent changes to the site.
