Mount Vernon City Council adopted a package of resolutions and ordinances during its Aug. 10 meeting, including a donation of surplus police radio repeaters to the Knox County Sheriff's Department and several appropriations tied to public safety capital projects.
Chief Morgan described the surplus repeater units as incompatible with the department's new radio system but usable on the sheriff's equipment; the council voted to donate the devices, adopting Resolution 2026-81 after suspending the rules and taking the measure to final reading. Council members also approved reappointments to the Board of Property Maintenance Appeals and library board trustees, and moved forward with funds establishment and transfers to support the police station and other capital projects.
Finance staff noted a recent TIF refund/check of more than $700,000 that will fund local road projects and underscored that prior use of TIFs enabled work on Coshocton Avenue. Several ordinances related to capital funds and police-station billing were given final readings or moved forward per council motion.
