ZCS updates student handbooks to reflect device policy changes

Following adoption of Policy 5136, the board approved revisions to the 2026–27 student handbooks; trustees discussed consequence severity for high-school infractions and were told consequences will consider number of infractions and individual circumstances.
Superintendent Rebecca Coffman presented proposed revisions to the 2026–27 student handbooks that align handbook language with the just-adopted Policy 5136 restricting student personal wireless devices.
Board members discussed how consequences would be measured at the high-school level; Coffman said consequences are measured against the number of infractions and other subjective factors that must be considered case by case. "Consequences are measured against the number of infractions and other subjective measures that must be considered in individual situations," Coffman said. The board approved the handbook revisions 4-0.
Staff will update building- and district-level handbook publications to reflect the policy change and will communicate expectations to families prior to the start of the school year.
