County proclaims Feb. 22 "Tom Atkins Day" after coach's Hall of Fame induction

Mayor William A. Vogel opened the Feb. 23 meeting by recognizing Joe Burns athletic director and former football coach Tom Atkins for his induction into the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Vogel read a formal proclamation noting Atkins's coaching record, regional championships and state runner-up finishes and announced Feb. 22, 2026, as "Tom Atkins Day" in Robertson County.
Members of Atkins's family joined the commission for the proclamation; Vogel praised Atkins's long service to local athletics and the community. "It is an honor to recognize Joe Burns athletic director and former football coach, Tom Atkins, being named to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame," Vogel said as he read the proclamation. The commission and audience applauded the honoree.
