Director Altman urged the CRA to include parking‑garage options in its planning, saying the city may need to borrow to fund a structure and that not planning ahead could hinder matching opportunities. “If we did, let's figure out what it would cost. It's maybe not the right time to do it either. But if we have, the right kind of projects and things change after November…and we get into January, February, it would be nice to contemplate things in that plan,” Altman said.
Other members questioned whether the existing garage serves downtown needs or a different planned large project, and some urged getting usage data before committing to new construction. A call was made for surveys and demand analysis tied to Friday/Saturday night usage; no decision to borrow or program funds was made at the meeting.
