Residents raise dumping, animal trapping and business attraction concerns during public comment

During the public comment period resident David DeBlaw of 6906 Meadow Song Trail followed up on complaints previously raised by his wife about debris dumping across the street from their home; the board referred the matter to Attorney Jim Stevens to continue investigating the village’s authority given the property lies in Rockford Township. President Timothy Owens offered to set a follow-up meeting to produce a plan with the businessman and property owner who spoke in support of attracting new tenants to the strip mall on 11th Street.
Trustees also discussed reports of a person trapping animals at 1915 South Bend, with concerns that traps intended for nuisance animals had affected residents’ pets. Trustee Eileen Owens said the property owner’s POA reported the traps have been removed and eviction is in process. The board noted that backyard chickens are not allowed under current village ordinance and asked a committee to consider an ordinance that would permit chickens under specified conditions, such as by permit and with numerical limits.
