New Milford trustees table clerk/treasurer pay increase for committee review

Sharon K. Baumgartner, Village Clerk/Treasurer, asked the board for a compensation increase, saying the village’s growth and added duties — including audits, grants and online portals — warrant a raise after more than five years without one. She told the board she “did not ask for more money and then have more jobs given to her,” and asked that any additional tasks be accompanied by additional pay.

Trustee Deanna Rodgers moved to table the compensation item until the committee meeting; Ron Colvin seconded the motion. The motion carried on a voice vote with six ayes and no nays or abstentions. Village Attorney Jim Stevens described an ordinance draft that would set a $900 starting figure effective Sept. 1, 2024, with a 3% increase each May 1 for five years; Trustee Dan Wolf said, on merit, he supports a $1,000 increase now. The board deferred further action to the committee meeting for a final recommendation.
