Parks report busy summer bookings, successful youth fishing event and school visits

Kyle Thornton told the commission that all county parks are open and staffed for the summer, and that the pavilion is nearly fully booked on summer weekends. Thornton also reported that Durand Public Schools took their annual trip to Motz and Clinton Lakes county parks with approximately 150 students in attendance.
The commission heard a recap of the Earl‑Hesse Youth Fishing event at Motz County Park: 42 youth checked in and the event saw greater participation in 2026 than similar programs in nearby Ingham County. Commissioners discussed ideas to increase visitor engagement, including investigating an equipment-shed model or a 'borrow a toy' beach box at Motz and Clinton Trails.
