County reports positive water sampling results; invasive species and algal bloom updates discussed

County staff reported that water sampling for beach monitoring and well sampling is underway and that testing results have returned positive. The coordinator included this update as part of parks operations and summer monitoring plans.
The Water-Based Recreation/Surface Water Quality committee members reported they delivered invasive-species signs to several locations, and a fisherman at Babcock's Landing found European frogbit in the Looking Glass River. Commissioners also noted Health Department reporting that an algal bloom at Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park has been cleared. Phil Hanses said the committee will seek a proposal from an engineer to study clogged jams in the intercounty drain portion of the river and recommend removal approaches.
