The Nokomis City Council voted to set a public hearing on the city's Tax Increment Financing redevelopment plan for Jan. 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. before the regular council meeting, Mayor Goldsmith said. Commissioner Glenn moved for adoption of Ordinance 2133; Commissioner Stauder seconded and the motion carried with Commissioners Glenn and Stauder and Mayor Goldsmith voting yes.
The hearing will provide an opportunity for public input on the proposed redevelopment project and associated TIF district. Commissioner Stauder asked the council when the member of the community for the TIF review board must be selected; the council did not set a date during the Nov. 25 meeting and left the question for future consideration. Mayor Goldsmith said he would follow up as part of the hearing preparations.
The ordinance sets only the hearing date and does not itself create the TIF district or authorize expenditures. Additional council action will be required after the public hearing to adopt any redevelopment plan or financing measures.
