Commission approves ALDOT agreement to replace Riverside Bridge

The Saint Clair County Commission voted to approve an agreement from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for the Riverside Bridge replacement project. Clay Phillips, the county engineer, told commissioners, "We finally got the agreement from ALDOT for the Riverside Bridal Replacement Project," and asked for approval of the agreement.
Commissioners discussed whether the structure might be a Civilian Conservation Corps-era bridge and noted the project could involve demolition or a spillway alternative. Phillips said construction would probably not begin until late FY27 or FY28 and that funds for the project are available through FY29. The commission moved, seconded and approved the agreement by voice vote.
The vote advances a project county staff said will require further planning and could be tied to nearby work including bypass or Sugar Farm Road improvements. Phillips and commissioners agreed to revisit cost estimates — he noted prior numbers are several years old and will need updating before construction begins.
