Mayor: 385-acre parcel near Exit 33 is subject of annexation request; county not decision-maker

The county mayor read a prepared statement to the Bradley County Commission outlining an annexation request affecting "approximately 385 acres near Exit 33 adjacent to the Love's truck stop," and said the parcel is currently undeveloped and the property owner has asked to be annexed into the City of Cleveland with a general commercial zoning designation. "This is not the City Of Cleveland taking county land on its own," he said, adding that the parcel lies inside the city's growth boundary so the request "will not come before the Bradley County Commission."
The mayor addressed speculation the site could become a data center, saying he had "no information indicating that is the case beyond speculation" and that current city commercial zoning "does not currently allow for data centers." He said zoning could change later but declined to speculate, emphasizing he wanted to provide accurate information and transparency as facts emerge. When asked, the mayor said the city notifies the county of annexation requests and he forwards them to the county attorney, roads superintendent and county planner for input.
