Moses principal outlines programs to boost student belonging and family engagement

Victoria Lee, the new principal at Moses, presented a summary of initiatives intended to strengthen students' sense of belonging, build family partnerships and promote student voice.
"Coming in as a new principal there's a lot of exciting things that were happening and things that we're building on," Lee said, and described several concrete programs: weekly 'shout outs' where staff nominate students who show respect, responsibility and safety; a revived safety patrol that gives 4th graders additional responsibilities during dismissal; student‑led morning announcements and a 'Feel Good Friday' music initiative; buddy classes linking younger and older students for joint activities; and a schoolwide diversity project in which each student decorated a unique puzzle piece representing their culture or family.
Lee said teachers proactively communicate with families and that the school's equity team will distribute a family survey — translated and accessible on multiple platforms — to identify barriers to participation and shape outreach strategies. She invited parents to the school's open house and art show later that week.
