District investigating Lost River water concerns, pursuing phased grant-funded solutions

Facilities staff briefed the board on investigation into the district’s Lost River water system. Staff said they collected water tests that are currently deemed safe compared with 2023 data but flagged concerns about pipe deterioration and potential pump damage. District staff and engineering partners (Atkins Engineering) are preparing a grant application to pursue a phased remediation plan that could include deeper wells, filtration, or other long-term solutions.
Staff explained phase 1 would be an investigation to determine the best technical approach rather than immediately installing a filtration system; they said the grant program is on a rolling basis and can support a two-phase approach. Board members asked whether other district sites are on wells; staff identified a few district locations that use wells for water or geothermal heat and said the district will continue monthly testing while pursuing grant funding and technical assessments.
Staff will return with a scope of work and grant timeline once engineering recommendations and costs are available.
