Nokomis council appoints Charlie O’Malley to fill vacancy, reassigns commissioners

At a Jan. 8 special meeting, the Nokomis City Council appointed visitor Charlie O’Malley to fill the vacancy left by Commissioner Louis Stauder. Commissioner Arkebauer moved to appoint O’Malley and Commissioner Morris seconded; the motion passed with affirmative votes from Commissioners Morris, Arkebauer and Mayor Dylan Goldsmith.
Mayor Goldsmith proposed a set of departmental assignments after the appointment. The council approved placing Commissioner O’Malley in the department of Accounts and Finance (motion carried). Commissioner Arkebauer moved to designate Commissioner Morris to the department of Public Health and Safety; Commissioner O’Malley seconded. Commissioners Arkebauer, O’Malley and Mayor Goldsmith voted yes and Commissioner Morris abstained. The council later designated Commissioner Glenn to Streets and Public Improvements and designated Commissioner Arkebauer to Public Property; in both of those votes the motion carried (Arkebauer abstained on the Public Property designation). The meeting adjourned at 5:05 P.M.
