Council adopts $17.3M current CIP plan and previews projects including Fire Station 63 and Barnes Park Aquatic Center

Public Works Director Sean Eigel presented the city’s FY 2026–27 Capital Improvement Plan, describing more than 30 active projects and highlighting completed work and upcoming priorities.
Eigel said that since FY 2011–12 the city has paved just over 73 of 132 miles of roadway (about 55%) and that the next fiscal year’s red‑lined work covers approximately 6 miles. He noted the city completed more than 900 ADA ramp replacements in the past 10 years. For FY 2026–27, staff anticipates about $16 million in CIP activity following $17.3 million this current year. Major upcoming efforts include design for Fire Station 63, Barnes Park Aquatic Center and a multimodal mobility hub (awaiting Metro approval), as well as the Monterey Pass undergrounding segment and Garvey Avenue water main replacement.
Councilors and staff acknowledged a backlog of projects that may total in the hundreds of millions of dollars and encouraged participation in upcoming finance workshops to identify revenue and grant opportunities.
