At the Dec. 22 work session, Ron Hedgecoke asked commissioners to amend the coroner budget by $2,000 to retain an extra deputy coroner, saying an individual deputy coroner currently receives $25 per pay period and deputies must attend annual training. Hedgecoke said having an extra deputy would allow 24-hour coverage.
County Manager Thomas Weaver confirmed he had recently approved two expense reimbursements of about $2,000 and said the commission would review Hedgecoke's request. Chairman Charles Coffey and Weaver told Hedgecoke they would not make a decision immediately and would report back after staff has time to evaluate the budget impact and options for coverage. The commission did not vote on the funding request at the work session and directed staff to return with a recommendation.
