GFL raises trash rates; county to place increase on January water bills, manager says

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at the Oct. 27 work session that GFL, the county’s waste-hauler, has raised residential rates by $2.00 per month and that an extra container now costs $14.00 monthly. Weaver said the landfill tipping fees have doubled and that GFL proceeded with the rate increase despite local hopes they would not. He confirmed the county will include the increase on January water bills so residents will directly bear the added cost rather than the county continuing to absorb it.
Chairman Charles Coffey and staff discussed timing and reporting to residents; Weaver said the county will take the first month’s increase and then it will appear on residents’ January billing. Weaver noted that GFL’s rates remain competitive in the region despite the increase.
