Planning & Zoning board size and quorum problems put on next agenda

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at the July 1 meeting that Planning & Zoning has had difficulty maintaining a quorum and asked whether the commission can reduce the board from seven members to five. He said the board brought the concern to county staff and that some long‑time members have stepped off boards after only a meeting or two.
Commissioners agreed to add the matter for review by County Attorney Bin Minter and to include it on the July work session agenda. Commissioner Damon Hoyte said he preferred appointing the new applicants rather than shrinking the board. The commission will consider the legal implications and any charter or ordinance changes before voting.
