Cusseta‑Chattahoochee adopts 2024 Hazard Mitigation Plan to retain FEMA funding eligibility

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County unanimously adopted the Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Hazard Mitigation Plan 2024 during its Aug. 5 regular meeting after amending the agenda to take up the measure. Commissioner Timothy Biddle moved to add the plan to the agenda and Commissioner Jason Frost seconded; the board approved both the amendment and the plan by unanimous vote.
The update — prepared with input from a 21‑member planning committee — lists nine natural hazards and four technological/man‑made hazards and identifies 79 mitigation strategies, including improved communications equipment, portable generators for water utilities, and studies to locate outdoor warning sirens. The plan notes jurisdictions are not required to implement each strategy but that “for every $1 spent on mitigation projects, a community can save $6–12 in response and recovery costs.” Adoption makes the county eligible for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and signals a multiyear approach to reducing future storm, flood and technological risks.
