Bob Shull, the village water operator, briefed trustees on an EPA inspection conducted Jan. 10, 2025. Shull said the EPA sent findings that require the village to respond within three days; he told the board the agency identified an improperly sealed well (Shull said he applied flexible rubber sealant and will provide a photo) and required upstream and downstream sampling procedures and an update to the Coliform Monitoring Plan to record total chlorine on monthly reports. Shull said a Nitrification Action Plan was not applicable.
Shull also reviewed EPA recommendations the village must respond to: installing a second well (an ongoing discussion), evaluating chlorine-feed equipment (adding another chlorine pump or installing a flow-paced system), continuing valve exercising (with caution because valves are old), and addressing amounts of unaccounted-for or unbilled water (work is underway with new and additional meters). Cyber security and two plan-only items were not applicable, Shull said.
