Council holds first reading to repeal obsolete open-burn ordinance

"We found an old ordinance on an open burn that we used to have here in the city... the old one, which is chapter 66, article 2, section 37, needs to be repealed as it's been superseded by chapter 38 of the municipal code," Mr. Coffey said.
Council members asked for confirmation that the new fire ordinance (Chapter 38) contains the applicable provisions and penalties; Mr. Coffey confirmed the Chapter 38 ordinance — adopted about two years earlier — carries penalty provisions and will control enforcement going forward. The item will return for second reading at the council's next meeting.
