Assigned Counsel reports 47 arraignments in May; ILS grant covered attorney costs

Lloyd Hoskins of the Assigned Counsel office told the committee the Centralized Arraignment Program handled 47 arraignments during May. Of those, 26 (55%) were for town or village courts and 21 (45%) were for Auburn City Court. Hoskins said 25 defendants (53%) were released on their own recognizance and 22 (47%) were held on bail or other reasons; 14 (28%) were brought on arrest or bench warrants and 18 Orders of Protection were issued.
Hoskins said the attorney cost associated with CAP for May was $9,080.00 and that Counsel at First Appearance attorney costs for May totaled $10,360.00; he said those expenses were paid from an Indigent Legal Services (ILS) grant. He also provided counts of attorney assignments across Auburn City Court, County Court, Justice courts and Family Court for May.
