Cayuga County 911 center outlines staffing plan and backup communications setup

Ben Guzalak, director of Cayuga County 911, told the Judicial & Public Safety Committee the center is actively shifting trainees into operational roles and expects new hires to start between June 22 and July 20. One trainee is learning a second dispatch position this week; two trainees move into positional training on July 1; two new hires are slated to start June 22 or July 6; a possible third position would begin July 6 or July 20 if approved. Guzalak also reported an Emergency Services Dispatcher resigned effective June 11.
Guzalak briefed the committee on equipment and grant matters: PSAP and SIGC grant deadlines (PSAP noted as due June 3, SIGC due June 17), completed antenna replacement/repair work at multiple tower sites (Port Byron, Ovid, Cato, PSB, Sterling and Aurelius), and a successful UPS repair at the PSB tower shelter. He said Motorola staff were on site in Auburn on June 9 to set up a temporary backup location using existing laptops for CAD, phones and radio functions. The committee approved a related personnel authorization later in the meeting (Resolution 6-26-JP-1).
